Equity matters. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join NOMA-LA, regardless of race or ethnicity. As an organization, we advocate for fellowship, equity, and excellence in design. That mission can only be achieved through diversity, in who we serve but also in who we are as an organization. While the percentage of minorities in our profession is on the rise, only 3%* are African-American or Latinx as of 2016. Change will happen only when we provide support to underrepresented people of color and educate everyone on the importance of inclusion.
Why do race and gender matter in our profession? Here’s an article from KUT in Austin about the importance of building a diverse architectural community: http://kut.org/post/these-black-women-hope-build-diversity-within-austins-architect-community
