New Orleans, LA {May 7th, 2014} – NOMA Louisiana, the Louisiana affiliate of the National Organization of Minority Architects, has announced the 2014 NOMA LA Project Pipeline Workshop Showcase to be held at the Contemporary Arts Center in Downtown New Orleans on May 12th, 2014. The 2014 Project Pipeline Workshop series worked with kids at Kids Rethink New Orleans Schools (ReThink), Urban League College Track, and SciAcademy.

PROJECT PIPELINE WORKSHOPS are a continuation of our award-winning architecture + design summer camp. The program is built to provide students with a platform to discuss, analyze, and interpret the impact of design, art, and architecture in the built environment through a focused curriculum and creative outcomes. Project Pipeline started locally, in the summer of 2012, partnering with Tulane School of Architecture, to introduce high school students to the design process, with an emphasis on architecture and urban design. Since then, the program has expanded to include a spring semester workshop series and a camp in Baton Rouge, partnering with LSU School of Architecture.

Program director Bryan Lee Jr. says, "the organization believes that architecture is personal and collaborative, logical and creative, and it is the relationship between these modalities that defines design thinking and in turn defines the Project Pipeline Workshops.”

NOMA Louisiana’s Project Pipeline Program encourages individuals ranging from high school students to firm principals to participate in its tiered program as both mentors and mentees. The intention of the program is to provide support, connection, and continued mentorship throughout an aspiring architect’s career.

NOMA LA Project Pipeline is in its second full year. NOMA LA Project Pipeline has expanded from a four day summer camp in New Orleans and Baton Rouge to a weekly workshop series serving 30+ students in three separate programs in the city. The Spring Workshop students have been tasked with producing community centers for various New Orleans neighborhoods. They have researched, analyzed, and designed functional spaces to meet the needs of the communities they have selected. The students will present their findings and designs during the final Workshop Showcase.
